Why Me?
You feel you have the world by the tail. Everything is going great, you have a great job and you have a beautiful place to live, a nice car and great looking clothes. You have lots of friends that you are constantly doing things with. You may even have a spouse and kids that love you very much. You wake up every morning ready to face the day.
Then one day your boss asked you to come into his office. He tells you that they are down sizing the company and your job is being eliminated. You go home that evening and when you open the door you are greeted with water from a water pipe that burst while you were gone. The next morning you get up after a very restless night's sleep and you get in your car and it will not start. "And the beat goes on" as some would say.
Let's say you wake up one day and you are just not feeling right. This has been going on for days and you thought it was the flu or something. It is really starting to get to you so you make an appointment to see your doctor. After taking several tests you get a call a few days later asking you to come to your doctors office to discuss the results. When you arrive and sit down with your doctor he tells you the last thing you would ever expect to hear and that is you have cancer.
Do I need to go on? I think you get the picture. No matter what the situations are from loss of your job, illness, divorce, or death of a loved one; the results are the same causing you to ask yourself - WHY ME?
When you are going through things that are shaking your life's foundation you most likely blame God. Why? Up to this point God has meant nothing to you. You have not given Him a single thought, except maybe using His name when you are mad. You laughed at a prime time TV show when He or His children are depicted as babbling fools - what's the problem with that, it is all in good fun. Some of you, as you are reading this, are saying "yes that may be true but because I did not include Him in my life up to this point, God is mad at me and slamming me with all of this just to get back at me for ignoring Him or laughing at Him and those who call themselves His children. Is that not how things work?"
Let's say you are a Christian and have tried to live a good life based upon all you have heard in Church and read in "how to" Christian books. You follow the simple steps to a successful Christian life as you carefully read and also heard preached on each week in church as long as the message does not run past an hour. Every once in a while you thank God for the things you have when you remember to. You give to your church or to the TV evangelist from what is left over after spending your money on the things you need and the bills that are due. You may even give a certain amount under the conditions He will increase that amount seven times or more and give it back to you. Sweet deal isn't it?
You could also be very dedicated in your day-to-day Christian walk and give Christ praise for all He is doing in your life. You regularly spend time with Christ in prayer and study. You are very active in your Church doing all you can. You are always there for anyone in need. You speak about Christ every chance you can to anyone that will listen. You strive to have a good Christian home.
No matter where you are in life there still will be events taking place that will be painful to endure. But the difference between a person who has not discovered Christ or a person who calls themselves a Christian but is not truly walking the path of one versus one who is dedicated to his or her walk with Christ is who is in REAL control of their life.
God is not a deity without any compassion sitting on a throne high above your head just waiting for the opportunity to strike you down because He is mad at something you did or did not do. God is not someone you can make a deal with or bribe into doing something for you in exchange for some little thing you do for Him. God cannot be compared to anyone you know on this earth or even some deity the media has invented in a prime time special using carefully selected so called "religious authorities" and their personal findings. God cannot be stuffed in to a nice little box with a cute bow on top that you or the media have invented.
Who is God? He is the Creator of all things. He is the perfect Father and because He is the perfect Father, He is there for each of His children as no earthly father could ever be. He knows everything and can do anything beyond whatever you could imagine simply because He is God. The only "limit" God has are the limits you invent within your own mind.
Then why does God allow bad things to happen to me if He is such a perfect Father? Because He is the Perfect Father! If you are a parent you know that no matter how hard you try to tell your kids what is right and wrong they still have to learn things the hard way. They think they know what is best despite what you have to say about it. Come on, be honest, you were the very same way when you were growing up. God, as the perfect Father allows these things to happen to teach you one very important thing - who is really in control. And guess what - it is not you.
God the Father loves you so much He gave His only Son to die on the cross for you so that nothing would stand in the way between you and Him. He loves you so much He is standing right there, as you are crying not knowing what to do with His hand reaching out to take yours to draw you close to Him. He is God, folks, and He can do ALL things so He can most certainly help you with anything you are facing in life. And you know what, He even knows the results of anything He does for you because He sees the future. Can You?
