Why You Need A Savior

"For the Son of Man has come to seek and save that which was lost." (Luke 19:10)

Have you ever heard someone ask you "Have you been saved?" What does that mean? Saved from what? The question that should be asked is, do you know who God is and do you know what He requires of His children?

People who are trusting in the golden rule, good works or self-righteousness are following a way "which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death" (Proverbs 14:12). God calls people to Him to do His will. In the Scriptures this is referred to as the Narrow Path.

Because "all of us are like sheep that have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way" and we are in need of turning to God for all of our answers. (Isaiah 53:6).

Christ is the Source of the Truth

"God...desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony borne at the proper time" (1 Timothy 2:3-6). "In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins" (1 John 4:10).

When some people ask you if you are "saved" or not, many of them believe that their particular denomination can "save" you. The truth is, there is no religion, temple, church or denomination that can "save" you. A Christian loved one or friend cannot place you on the Narrow Path. Fraternal organizations cannot show you the way to the Narrow Path. Founders of religious movements cannot do this for you. God is the only One Who can show you the truth of His Narrow Path and what He requires of each one of us to continue walking on it in order to receive eternal life.

"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ our Lord" (Rom. 6:23). "God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).

How to have Christ as Your Teacher

"And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father has sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world...And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son" (1John 4:14; 5:11).

To become a follower of Christ our Messiah (a true Christian) it is necessary for a definite transaction on the part of the individual. God will do His part but you also have a responsibility. When you realize you are not walking on the Narrow Path, that Christ is the Saviour and Teacher you need, the next step is to believe the truth of God's Word, confess your sin and need of His guidance and sincerely ask Him in prayer.

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of Yahweh Christ shall be saved" (Rom. 10:13). "Believe in Christ and you shall be saved, you and your household" (Acts 16:30). If "you confess with your mouth Christ is Yahweh, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved...For the Scripture says, 'Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed" (Romans 10:9,11).

Christ said, "All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me; and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out" (John 6:37).

Now that a taste of the Gospel of Christ has been presented to you, are you ready to go to God in prayer asking Him to show you the Narrow Path, all that He requires and be a true follower of Christ? If so, here is a short prayer you can say in case you have a hard time coming up with the words. When we pray, we don't have to come to God with a doctoral degree from an educational institute. God wants us to come to Him with our heart and to be sincere when we speak to Him. Speak to God as you would a good friend.

"God, I believe you are Lord. I am in need of Your guidance and teaching from Your Word the Scriptures; I repent of all my wrongdoing, and I want to become Your follower. I trust in the blood that you shed on Calvary for the cleansing of my sin. I believe you rose from the dead, and I open the door of my heart to receive you as my personal Saviour and as my Teacher. Amen."
